Eyelids scar

The common problem that can be found after eyelids surgery is the unpleasant scar which can be hypertrophic scar, widening scar or depressed scar.

The causes of these unpleasant scars are as following

1. The eyelids crease fixation

The eyelid surgery whether by non-incisional method, short scar or long scar are the imitation on the nature of eyelid crease appearance by stitching dermal layer to the levator palpebrae superioris that make the deep rutted scar. And also the levator palpebrae superioris s movement is happening all the time causing hypertrophic convex scar and may be loose the stitches.

2. The wound closing stitches

The stitches for closing the wound only on the outer skin but not including the obicularis oculi usually cause the deperessed rutted scar.

The surgery techniques that help to decrease the chance of having the unpleasant scars can be divided into 2 techniques

1. The eyelids crease fixation

The fixation of the crease by stitching 3 structures together which are obicuaris oculi muscle, levator palpebrae superiosis and tarsal plate will help to prevent the deep rutted scar, Decrease the tension on the wound and prevent the movement on the wound that cause the widening scar.

2. Wound closing stitches

Closing the wound by stitching the skin layer and obicularis oculi muscle altogether will decrease the chance of having depressed scar.
